#21 education and wellbeing

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”― Nelson Mandela

Hello my lovelies,

I love the quote above because Mandela is right, education is a right so many do not have. It enables us to become informed, become powerful, form opinions and communicate. I am talking about education and wellbeing for so many reasons, namely because education can really boost our wellbeing, on so many fronts. Education is a right (saying it again to emphasise the point!), and there are millions on this planet who currently do not receive that right to the fullest extent possible. It is a condition for happiness that countless ignore. Today’s is a short read, simply because, I think it’s time I talked about one of the biggest gratitude I have in life and I want you to think about its impact on you.

Impact

Education comes in different forms, from literacy and numeracy to sciences, history, geography, politics… the list goes on. Education is power. Education provides knowledge and has enabled even resistance efforts throughout history. It fosters communication, community, collective efforts to better society. It allows us to be human.

For me personally, education has been a lifeline for bettering myself. I found information on my health conditions, resources for coping, I found useful techniques, education gave me my restful hobbies from basic literacy skills. Women fought hard for us to have this right and I certainly won’t waste it. Reading gave me a sense of different worlds. Writing allows me to create my own. Numeracy helps me understand economics. Newspapers and history books enabled me to learn about geopolitics which is a forever passion.

I am grateful for my education. Eternally so. It is indescribable of how important education is to me.

Education fosters the need to be heard and to find the right words to echo sentiment. How does it impact wellbeing? It can impact your way of thinking, feeling and acting. Consider your alignment on social care, or care needs you have been thinking of. How you feel about different elements of the connected society. You learn what distresses you and what helps you, what hinders you. You can act on what you consume to benefit yourself and others. Information is powerful. It led to massive resistance movements all across time to benefit societies for the greater good. Education is fundamental to us as humans to know what we need to do to help ourselves. But on a more casual level, it means we can engage in restful and happy hobbies for as long as we please!

Journal prompt: why does education matter to me? What has it led me to?
