What does a resolution mean?
Hello my lovelies,
A new year is upon us! I so do hope the new year has started well for you, if it has been overwhelming I hope ease is brought to you soon. Today I would love to talk about new year ‘resolutions’; do they really resolve things for me? What is their purpose?
New year resolutions are commonly spoken about over the festive season and are viewed as a reset of life. People tend to make goals that are usually lofty and have a fair few of them. The word resolution gives an impression they can fix a life. I used to swear by them because they added motivation to my life, they gave me a purpose and something to accomplish.
When I really began undertaking wellness, I saw why I partially had low self-esteem, I wasn’t hitting these resolutions. I was burning out and felt like a failure. What I learned was that the resolutions i made took joy from my life rather than add positivity. The few goals I did meet, were not maintained for long and never really resolved anything.
Now, I realised part of my problem was in trying to be so holistic, I wasn’t able to keep up on all areas of my life. For 2025, with great help from my sister, we created new year focuses via vision boards and that really helped. I set my focus upon a couple areas of life with dedicated goals and hopes, then the planning began. And boy did I manifest.
I think having a resolution can be a good motivational factor in feeling accomplished, much like PERMA elements, but there is such little guidance out there telling people to focus on one, two or three areas and making an overall vision, then getting into the details. But I want peoples focus on adding more wholesomeness rather than taking away joy – that is the essence of a new year, or should be. There needs to be an understanding that baby steps are necessary, that this goal, when accomplished, might not “fix” everything. I learned that the hard way.
Once again for this year, I am having my focus on spiritual health, financial heath and mental health. I have my plans, I know the steps I want to take; however, it is important I maintain what I am doing, it will not resolve everything, but it will all add joy to my life.
Journal prompt: what can I add to my life that will bring joy?
Kindly, Leanne x
