in honour of all my sisters
Hello my lovelies,
Today I want to talk about women, specifically, sisterhood. This has been done in light of deep reflection and realisation. Sisterhood is defined as: “the feeling of kinship with and closeness to a group of women or all women”, and, “an association, society, or community of women linked by a common interest, religion, or trade.”
Women since time immemorial have been revered, loved and respected, we have also been oppressed, hated and fetishised. We have been viewed as givers of life, and witches (witches are wonderful). But all these conflicting notions depend on the time and place. It has led to one thing: a strong lineage.
We descend from mother to daughter in a primal force. We bond with one another over shared experiences. Mother and daughterhood, it’s complicated and chaotic at times, yet there is still a bond like no other. We form a connection that continues even after death.
What is more powerful than mother and daughter? Sisterhood. When I say this I don’t just mean blood sisters, I also mean sisters we have chosen, sisters who have went through similar circumstances, sisterhood in the deepest sense that all women are connected. We are bound together from ancient ancestors. We are bound to support one another. We are bound by our unending love. We are bound because history demands it.
There are few words I can put together to truly describe the power of my own sisterhood experiences. My chosen sister saved my life – we support and protect one another. We are present. My blood sisters are spectacular. We are different but that makes our collective nature all the more strong. They help my wellbeing through support, honesty and integrity.
Journal prompt: Sisterhood means…to me
Kindly, Leanne x
